Dear Bearded Confidant,

My lover expects a party for his birthday and goes to lengths to give a co-worker or a friend a party. I'm having my birthday by myself. My lover decided he couldn't take me to the bar tonight to celebrate mine because he has to go to the bar tomorrow to watch the super bowl and drink with his friends. I feel so alone but I love this guy and I've given him everything he wants if I can afford it.  All I ask is return is a little attention.  I married in because I truly love him. Is it too much to ask for a little affection in return?

Dear TracerBear,

No, it is not too much to ask for a little attention and affection in return for your love and support. In fact, it's not too much to ask to be cherished and adored. When a guy is in a relationship, the whole point is that he should NEVER feel alone. You deserve much better than you are getting. You deserve to be with someone who WANTS to celebrate your birthday with you. It all boils down to priorities. How high are you on your lover's priorities list? According to what you describe, you may not even be on his list at all. It sounds as though he's only willing to be there for you when it's convenient to him. Too bad, because he's the real loser here. You only have something to gain—namely, a better man in your life. Burn rubber and tell this selfish bastard to eat your dust. Or better yet, tell him to eat your rubber.
